Frequently Asked Questions

Are your products really handmade?

Yes. Every Beard Brothas product is formulated, melted, hand-poured, bottled, and packaged by Patrick himself in Hoover, Alabama — in small batches, made when orders come in. Nothing is mass-produced or private-labeled.

What does "cold pressed and unrefined" mean?

It describes how our oils and butters are made. Cold pressing extracts oil without heat or chemicals, and "unrefined" means the butters and oils are never stripped or bleached afterward — so the natural vitamins and nutrients that make shea butter, cocoa butter, and our carrier oils good for your hair and skin are still in there. It's the difference between an ingredient that's alive and one that's been processed into a shadow of itself.

What's the right way to use the products?

Water first, seal second. Mist with the Hydrating Botanical Mist to hydrate, then apply beard oil or balm to seal that moisture in. Balms go on slightly damp hair for best results. Bald Head Moisturizer Balm goes on after shaving or any time your scalp feels dry.

What do the scents smell like?

Our oils, balms, and wash come in 9 scents:

  • Classic: natural / tea tree + chamomile
  • Board Room: leather & cedarwood
  • Sweet Tobacco: rich tobacco leaf with a honeyed finish
  • Journeyman: teakwood
  • Boaz: honeysuckle
  • Alabama Pine: cedar & pine
  • Apprentice: bamboo
  • Brewed Bliss: creamy coffee
  • Sacred Resin: ancient mystique

Is the mist a conditioner?

No — and that's by design. The Hydrating Botanical Mist is a hydrator: aloe and botanicals put water back into your beard, braids, locs, and scalp without depositing anything. Conditioners coat the hair, which builds up over time. The mist leaves no buildup, so you can use it every day.

How long will my order take?

Each order is handmade in small batches. Most orders ship within 1–2 business days from Hoover, Alabama. Shipping is free within the continental US (Lower 48).

My balm arrived soft. Is it ruined?

No. Our balms are made with natural butters, which soften in heat — especially in a hot mailbox. Let the tin sit at room temperature and it will firm right back up. The product is unharmed.

What if my order arrives damaged or wrong?

Inspect your order when it arrives and contact us right away at customerservice@beardbrothas.com if anything is defective, damaged, or not what you ordered — we'll make it right.

My balm looks grainy — is something wrong with it?

No — your balm is fine, and it's an easy fix. Our balms are made with natural shea and cocoa butter. If a balm gets hot enough to melt — in a mailbox on a summer day, or in a parked car — and then cools back down slowly, the butters can form tiny crystals as they firm back up. That's the grainy texture. It doesn't change the quality or how the balm works.

To smooth it back out: take the lid off the tin, set it in your oven on its lowest setting until the balm has melted completely liquid, then take it out and let it cool and firm up at room temperature, undisturbed. It'll set back smooth, like new.
